Is this you ???

Do you need some help with your dog ?

Why not join one of our Good Citizen courses for pet dogs? As well as giving you practical help and advice on your dog's training needs, the courses are a great opportunity for you to meet other dog owners and for your dog to make friends with other dogs.

The Club participates in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme and the courses cover all the disciplines required for you and your dog to gain your Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award, but above all we aim to teach responsible dog ownership and basic obedience, so that everyone will go home at the end of the course with a well-mannered dog that can be taken anywhere without being an embarrassment or liability.

The classes for pet dogs are held on from 7.30 on Thursday evenings in our very spacious hall in Erith. (Click for Map). Each class is approximately 45 minutes long with two experienced instructors if the class size requires this.

The instructors are all very experienced dog owners and all compete in obedience competition with great success. We also have assistant instructors where extra help is needed.

Our methods are very gentle. WE DO NOT USE OR ALLOW CHECK CHAINS and do not allow harsh handling - we prefer to show the handler the right way in a positive manner, not a corrective way in a negative manner.

Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Course:

Puppies are taken once they are fully vaccinated, and our puppy courses run for 6 weeks and includes a puppy course information pack and an end of course assessment and certificate, if sufficient progress has been made.

Bronze Course:

Older dogs that have not completed the puppy foundation course can join our Bronze Kennel Club Good Citizen course which

runs for 6 weeks.

On the final night of the Bronze Good Citizen course class members take a Test for the Bronze Award, this will usually be conducted by a visiting, qualified, examiner.  If successful, you will be awarded the recognised Kennel Club Good Citizen certificate and rosette.

Silver Course:

Once puppy and/or Bronze tests have been achieved you can go on to train for the K.C. Silver Award followed by the ultimate test - the Gold Award.

Gold Good Citizen Award:

The ultimate Good Citizen Test

This is a real challenge but once achieved there is no doubt that both dog and handler are Good Citizens!!

Gold Plus:

Pass the Gold test and want to do more?

If the instructors feel that the dog and handler have the ability and dedication to do more they may be invited to join the Gold Plus section of the Gold class. They will build on their Gold Good Citizen exercises and take on more demanding tests. There is an annual fee of £10 (£5 for under 18's in full time education) and a weekly fee of £4 (£2)

Clicker Class:

This class is by invitation only as its main aim is to prepare handlers and their dogs for competitive obedience.

Candidates are selected on their ability to train their dog and to receive instruction. It is our hope to introduce new competitors to the world of competitive obedience and the handlers are very much aware that this can be a relatively long process to achieve a dog ready to compete at the entry level of Kennel Club Good Citizen Special Pre Beginner Stakes that are held at Open obedience shows throughout the country.

Experienced handlers may also be invited to join this class

There is an annual fee of £10 (£5 for under 18's) and a weekly fee of £4 (£2)

Course Fees:

The Bronze test course  and the Silver Good Citizen course is is £45 for 6 weeks. The Gold GCT and the Gold Plus class is £4 per week paid monthly in advance. We find that at this level dogs and handlers learn at a different rate so it is inappropriate to expect the Gold Test Handlers to take the test after 6 weeks. Each dog and handler will be tested when the instructor deems that they are ready and therefore most likely to pass the test.

Course Times:

After the second week into the course, we do not allow any new people to join. We feel that this would delay the progress of the class and would not be fair on the new people and dogs, who would be behind the rest.
We believe it is essential that you come to the hall to watch a class with your puppy/dog before starting on a course so that they can get to know the instructors and to get an idea of our methods and practices. It also helps the dogs to get used to the hall environment. During these visits, we can give advice on any problems that you feel you have with your puppy or dog and if your course start date is a few weeks away you will be welcome to come along each week until the course starts. Instructors may be busy but will always find time to offer help and advice.
